What is Balfolk?
Inspiring traditional dances from village festivities and weddings across Europe, balfolk has enjoyed a revival in recent decades, thriving on the international scene today. During this ball, you’ll participate in simple group dances (like jigs, an dro’s, and magic circles) or invite someone for a waltz, polka, schottische, or mazurka. Beginners will quickly pick up the basics, while advanced dancers can improvise. Everyone is welcome – with or without dance experience, and with or without a partner!

🎻 Wouter and the Draak Trio deliver balfolk music with a unique signature, blending danceability and musical freedom. Central to their performance are Wouter Kuyper (accordion) and Joris Alblas (DADGAD guitar). Their harmonious interplay creates a rich palette, ranging from enchanting intimate mazurkas to exuberant swinging scottishes, with a focus on improvisation. Wouter's powerful accordion playing is rooted in folk, while Joris adds a subtle Irish touch. Their shared love for Breton music shines through in dances like Gavotte de Montagne, Andro, and Hanterdro, creating a dynamic sound with added color from Frank Van Vliet on trumpet. Get ready for an engaging and lively ball, all on a Wednesday evening! 🎉
