When Things Get Heated: Somatic Practices for Triggering Moments
Queerness brings a unique beauty and complexity to our relationships with ourselves and others. Navigating the world as an outsider, especially in early life, can make our bodies sensitive to certain triggers.
Have you ever reacted in a way that you later regretted? Does it feel like your body instinctively takes over, despite your intention to respond calmly?
Join us in this workshop where we’ll engage in safe partner exercises, learning foundational somatic practices from the Strozzi Institute. Together, we’ll explore how to remain mindful in triggering moments, breaking free from our body's learned pattern of sensation-to-impulse-to-reaction. By focusing on our sensations until they dissipate, we can respond mindfully, aligning our actions and words with our true values.
This workshop is open to all self-identified queer men eager to enhance their relationships—be it romantic, familial, professional, or chosen—and to connect with like-minded individuals.
Participants are welcome to stay for informal socializing and connection until 9:30 PM.
Ticket Information: 🎟️ The workshop is priced at $30, with a sliding scale from $10 to $30 for those facing financial constraints.
Facilitators:
- Zach Bell: A certified somatic coach and men's group facilitator passionate about improving communication during conflict. He's the founder of realmenshare.org, focusing on men sharing their vulnerable stories.
