Workshop: (Sound)Making with Nervous Systems & Neural Networks w/ Jak Woda [Mateusz Mieciek] [Part of Open Culture Tech 2.0]
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
What if your body became the instrument and AI your creative partner? 🎤✨ Join us for a hands-on workshop with artist and technologist Jak Woda, where you'll engage in a playful exploration using your gestures, voice, and movement to create sound inputs. These will then be transformed into exciting audio experiences with AI tools!
Start your journey with gesture-based synthesis: a browser-based tool that captures your body movements via webcam, turning them into sound—think of it like a digital theremin, requiring no extra hardware! 🚀 From there, you'll describe sounds through text prompts to create fresh audio via EzAudio, generate MIDI drum patterns and melodies with language models, and compile everything into a short collaborative piece. 🎧🎶
No prior experience in music production or coding is necessary! Just bring a laptop with a browser and an adventurous spirit to create unique soundscapes. 🎨
What you'll explore:
- 🤖 Gesture-to-audio: Transform body movement into a musical interface.
- 🎵 Audio-to-audio: Manipulate sounds with AI tools like EzAudio.
- 🥁 LLM-to-MIDI: Generate drum patterns and melodies using language models.
- 💭 Critical reflection: Discuss creative agency and the role of AI in sound generation.
What to bring: A laptop with a browser. If you have Ableton or a similar DAW, that's great but not a must.
Duration: ~2.5-3 hours
Location: AIxDESIGN Foundation, NDSM Warehouse, Amsterdam
If you have any accessibility requirements, please let us know so we can assist you! 🙂
