Mama Klorin: A Conversation with Visual Artist and Women Cleaners

About the event

Join us for an engaging panel discussion that shines a light on the experiences of women cleaners in Greece during the 1990s and 2000s.✨ Doreida Xhogu's Mama Klorin dives deep into themes of memory, migration, class, and human dignity, revealing the hidden labor behind each mop-stroke. This conversation gives voice to the women cleaners, presenting them not as mere symbols, but as individuals with rich memories and life experiences.

Initiated in 2015, Mama Klorin is an emotional exploration shaped by Doreida and her mother's journeys as migrant cleaning workers. The dialogue invites personal testimonies that connect art with migration and social history. Through rarely heard stories, speakers will reflect on the impact of migration: the sacrifices made (homes, families, careers) and the realities faced upon arrival, including invisible labor and inequality, but also resilience and solidarity.

The panel features:

  • Adriana Xhogu
  • Liliana Saliaj
  • Maria Michalakopoulou
  • Doreida Xhogu

Moderated by Pari Vardhami and Ioanna Papapavlou, the curators of the exhibition Mama Klorin.
Together, we will uncover the richness of their identities as women, mothers, and workers, prompting essential questions about dignity and value that concern us all.
