Join us for a deep dive into how folk cultures have influenced modernity from 1918 to 1945 in the workshop hosted by the GAČR project, "Beyond the Village: Folk Cultures as Agents of Modernity."
What to Expect:
Explore pressing questions regarding folk art and its interactions with contemporary politics and ideologies. Engage with experts including Marta Filipová, Julia Secklehner, and Valéria Bláha, along with speakers from around the globe. Topics will cover:
- The roles of specific actors from extreme right to alternative subcultures in the context of folk cultures.
- How folk art serves as both a tool for empowerment and oppression.
- The commercialization of folk art and its ties to tourism and souvenir culture.
- Historical presentation, exhibition, and collection of folk art.
- Institutionalization of folk creativity and its ecological implications.
