🌟 About Aquakultre:
Aquakultre is the artistic persona of Lance Sampson, a remarkable singer, rapper, filmmaker, and storyteller hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia. His journey to national fame began in 2018 when he triumphed in CBC’s Searchlight songwriting competition with his second song ever written. Since then, Aquakultre has released a multitude of singles, EPs, collaborations, and two full albums: Legacy (2020) and Don’t Trip (2022), both of which received long-list nominations for the Polaris Music Prize alongside various East Coast Music Awards.

Lance's upcoming album, 1783, set to release worldwide on February 6, 2026, via Next Door Records, pays homage to a significant period in history. The title references the year when over 3,000 individuals of African descent sailed from New York as the Black Loyalists, many of whom were enslaved, seeking land and freedom. Upon their arrival in Nova Scotia, they faced immense challenges. Nonetheless, they thrived and established Black communities throughout the province.

💡 This profound concept album, deeply connected to Aquakultre's own family history, comprises 17 tracks—11 full-length songs and six interludes—all reflecting his life, Black Nova Scotian history, family narratives, and the legacy passed down from elders, illuminating the path to a hopeful future.

🎼 Produced by two-time Music Nova Scotia Producer of the Year Erin Costelo, mixed by Grammy winner Qmillion (Robert Glasper), and mastered by Grammy nominee Chris Athens (Drake), 1783 masterfully intertwines diverse historically Black musical styles, including gospel, blues, jazz, soul, and vintage R&B elements.
