🌍 Most people are eager to take climate action, yet many decisions continue to overlook these interests. As climate data (like carbon reports, climate risks, and transition plans) flows through the information chain, interpretation errors can amplify, leading to increased risks and costs in climate initiatives.

Join us for an enlightening evening where producers, formalizers, translators, and users of climate data gather to explore how we can effectively convert this information into actionable insights for the 21st century.

The communication tools we currently utilize—headlines, singular figures, direct attribution—are inadequate for the complexities of climate science, which involves varying ranges, margins, and probabilities. The crux is that climate science requires a different communication strategy that acknowledges these nuances to prevent misunderstanding, which is often underestimated.

The Climate and Cities team has spent 2.5 years delving into this issue, developing the science thinking methodology. This approach is based on three core principles aimed at reducing misunderstandings:

  1. Critical reading of statistics 📊
  2. Reasoning with probabilities 🔍
  3. Prioritizing at the appropriate scale 🌐.

This event marks the public debut of our work and will feature physical copies of the 'Closing the Climate Data Gap' white paper, alongside two additional resources:

  • The Field Guide for Decision-Makers: Working with Climate Evidence 📚
  • The Toolkit for Communicators: Translating Climate Science ✉️.

Digital copies will also be available shortly.

Agenda:
🔑 5:45 PM: Doors open with refreshments
🔑 6:15 PM: Introduction to the white paper and accompanying documents with Rebecca Lardeur, Creative Director at Climate and Cities.

About Climate and Cities:
C+C is a collective of designers and researchers established in 2019, dedicated to investigating the effects of climate change on urban environments. Through design and research, we aim to question, experiment, and produce impactful work that engages with climate action, striving to develop robust methods and fresh perspectives for understanding and communicating these urgent challenges.
