Filmscreening & Artisttalk: SEPARATIONS – Who Belongs to the Neckar?

Join us for a fascinating exploration of the documentary project Separations, currently under development. This film delves into the 2024 flood in Heidelberg, intertwining the filmmaker's personal experiences with significant discussions about the Neckar river.

At the heart of this project lies the dual narrative of the constant arrival and departure of students and researchers, alongside the lives of the birds that inhabit the riverbanks. Through various dialogues about ‘the geese situation,’ we delve into the stories, emotions, and debates these encounters provoke. This leads to essential questions regarding migration, coexistence, belonging, and environmental change in Heidelberg. 🌍🐦

On 24 July, we invite you to a preliminary screening of this work-in-progress, opening the floor for discussions surrounding the Neckar and its avian inhabitants. Topics may include memories of Neckarwiese, the evolving riverbanks post-floods, and daily experiences of urban bird life.

• Osman Baran Özdemir: A Turkish documentary filmmaker exploring memory, politics, and reality construction.
• Inah Kim: An artist and art historian focused on the interplay between public spaces and art, emphasizing interdisciplinary research of architecture as lived environments.
