Intro to Backpacking: An All-Women Weekend Trip!

This summer, we're partnering with OurSpot to present an exciting series of all-inclusive, beginner-friendly backpacking weekends in Harriman State Park. If backpacking has seemed intimidating due to gear, planning, or logistics, this weekend is for you!

Join us for an adventure filled with learning new outdoor skills, connecting with an incredible community of women, and escaping to the wilderness for a night under the stars. ✨

What to Expect

During this weekend, you will:

• Learn the fundamentals of backpacking
• Carry a properly fitted backpack
• Set up camp with the help of experienced guides
• Prepare and enjoy meals together
• Sleep under the beautiful night sky in Harriman State Park
• Gain confidence to plan your future outdoor adventures

Your Ticket Includes:

• Round-trip carpool transportation from Jersey City/NYC
• Backpacking and camping gear rental through OurSpot
• Lunch & dinner on Saturday, Brunch on Sunday
• Two knowledgeable backpacking guides
• A pre-trip backpacking guide and virtual Q&A session

Is This Trip Right for You?

This trip welcomes beginner backpackers, but participants should be ready to engage in activities and embrace the camping experience. Requirements include:

• The ability to carry a backpack weighing up to 35 lbs for about 1 mile on uneven trails.
• Comfort with camping amenities (or lack thereof) without running water, showers, or bathrooms.
• No prior backpacking experience is required—just bring a positive attitude and a zest for adventure!

At Girls Gone Hiking, we want every woman to feel that the outdoors is accessible and welcoming. Backpacking can seem out of reach due to expensive gear and finding companions, so we’ve designed this series to remove those barriers. Experience backpacking in a supportive, women-only setting where you can learn, ask questions, and forge friendships.

Pricing & Dates

• Each trip is priced at $225 per person.
• Your ticket supports women outdoor guides building careers in this historically male-dominated field. We’re committed to diversifying outdoor leadership and proud to rent gear through OurSpot, a business dedicated to making camping and backpacking accessible for NYC residents.

    Each weekend offers the same beginner-friendly experience, so pick the date that fits your schedule best!

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Given our small group sizes and upfront costs, please note:

• 7+ days before your trip: Receive a 75% refund.
• Less than 7 days before your trip: No refunds.
• In case of trip cancellation due to unsafe weather, participants can transfer their registration to another available weekend or receive a full refund. Registrations are transferrable with prior notification.

Additional Details

• You can meet the group at the Harriman State Park trailhead if preferred, but the trip price remains $225.
• A packing list will be provided one week prior; dogs are not allowed for this trip to ensure the comfort of all participants.
