Hits & Bits, named after the iconic American Negro Theatre variety show, features an afternoon of staged readings showcasing three rarely seen one-act plays by the remarkable P.J. Gibson. 🎬
Gibson, a prolific playwright and educator, authored over 35 plays, with her most renowned work being Long Time Since Yesterday from the 1980s. In her honor, the P.J. Gibson Memorial Scholarship for Creative Writers was established at John Jay College.
P.J. Gibson (1952-2022) drew inspiration from celebrated playwright Lorraine Hansberry. Known for creating substantial roles for African American women, her works delve into the lives and stories of Black women across historical and contemporary settings. 🌍🎤 Her manuscripts and published plays are part of the Schomburg Center's collection.
