Richard Dawkins believes Claude is conscious, while AI welfare groups express concerns about ChatGPT's potential suffering. Anthropic recently announced that Claude has a 'global workspace', which many argue is the basis of access consciousness. But how can we truly determine if LLMs possess consciousness?

In this event, Megan Peters will delve into these topics. She is a Lecturer in Computational Cognition at UCL and an Associate Professor at UCI. Additionally, she is the President and co-founder of the educational enterprise Neuromatch and serves as the scientific director of its AI Sentience Scholars program. Megan is also an advisor to several organizations, including PRISM, and a Fellow in the CIFAR Brain, Mind & Consciousness program. She holds a PhD from UCLA.
