A Gaze in a World in Motion: Shui Tit Sing’s Journeys, Lens and Modernity.
This exhibition forms part of our ongoing research initiative. Following the strong response to last year’s Rediscovering Shui Tit Sing (part 1), we continue to deepen our study of the artist by turning to his photographic practice—an essential yet often overlooked dimension of his work.
Within Shui Tit Sing’s (1914–1997) artistic trajectory, photography was never merely documentary. It functioned as a way of seeing and a method of constructing form, underpinning the development of his painting and sculpture. As such, it represents a crucial entry point into understanding his broader artistic language.
We also believe that his photographs, in their own right, carry significant artistic and historical value—offering both a refined visual sensibility and a compelling record of 20th-century cultural experience.
