Ivo Jahelka
The popular songs and courtroom stories of this likeable doyen of the Czech folk scene are well worth seeing and, above all, hearing.
Ivo Jahelka – since the mid-1980s, when he thrilled audiences at festivals such as Porta and Svojšický Letorost with his courtroom stories, it has been impossible to imagine the folk scene without him. He subsequently began releasing his own albums, mostly live concert recordings, where he intersperses songs with spoken word, also on the theme of humorous situations from legal practice. His songs are based on witty lyrics, rhymed with quality and imagination. He has prepared an educational series on law and the judiciary for Czech Television called "Ignorance is no excuse" and a column for Czech Radio called "Ivo Jahelka's Court Cases." He says that humor and laughter are the spice of life and that everyone likes to laugh at the misfortunes of others because, as one repeat offender said, "life is a continuous series of irregularly occurring screw-ups." So come and listen to the old ones and the new ones.
