Komentovaná prohlídka: TITANIC – The Artifact Exhibition
In the footsteps of Czechs on the Titanic. Guided tour of the exhibition with Michal Plavec.
Michal Plavec, curator of the collections at the National Technical Museum, will introduce visitors to the fates of the Czechs who traveled on the Titanic during a guided tour. The most famous case is that of the Navrátil boys, who were the descendants of a Slovak father and French mother. However, first-class passengers Emil Taussig and Emil Brandeis had distinctly Czech roots. Neither of them survived the shipwreck, but at least Tillie, the wife, and Ruth, the daughter, of the Taussig family were saved. Discover the stories of other Czech passengers and much more about the fateful voyage of the most famous ship in the world.
Michal Plavec is interested in the history of aeronautics and aviation. Since 2009, he has worked as curator of the aviation collection at the National Technical Museum in Prague. To date, he has written twenty-five monographs independently and ten in collaboration with other authors. His professional articles and studies have been published in Czech, Slovak, German, Polish, British, American, and French monographs and magazines. The Titanic and its passengers are among his long-standing hobbies, and he also publishes on this topic.
During the guided tour of the Titanic exhibition, visitors will learn about the moving stories of selected women who were directly on board the Titanic, carrying in their hearts the hope for a better life and fulfilling their personal, family, or professional dreams.
Practical information:
- The guided tour lasts approximately 60 minutes and is limited to 26 visitors. This preserves the exclusive nature of a private guided tour, during which visitors can ask the guide questions.
- After the tour, visitors are allowed to walk through the exhibition again on their own until closing time at 7 p.m. and read all the descriptions at their leisure, or listen to the entire audio guide in the Smart Guide app.
