ON THE NEEDLE (LONDON): upcycling workshop

Join us for On The Needle: Sewing Social! This exciting workshop is tailored for complete beginners who want to dive into the art of sewing without feeling overwhelmed. In this hands-on session, you'll acquire essential foundational skills and walk away with your very own unique garment: a creatively reworked oversized shirt! ✨

What to Bring

• Materials: All necessary equipment will be provided, except for the shirt you’ll be upcycling!
• Shirt Selection: Bring a checked, oversized men's or women's cotton shirt from your local charity shop. Choose one in your favorite color and pattern to create a personalized piece. If you can't find one in time, don't worry! We’ll have a limited selection available for purchase on the day, though sizes and patterns might vary.

Skills You Will Learn 🛠️

• How to thread your sewing machine correctly
• Appropriately wind and load a bobbin
• Safely change a needle
• An overview of different stitch types and their applications
• Practice time to build confidence using scrap fabric
• Step-by-step guidance on the technique of shirring
• Creation of your final piece: the reworked oversized shirt

• Enjoy light snacks and refreshments provided throughout the workshop.
• Don't forget to bring your own lunch, as the session will run for about 4 hours!
