Reaching for Dusk | Panel on Migration Routes, Integration Journeys and Media Narratives
Join us for an insightful evening dedicated to photojournalism and engaging discussions surrounding migration routes from West and North Africa to Europe. We’ll explore integration experiences in Germany as well as the influence of media and social networks in shaping perceptions of migration.
The event will feature a moderated dialogue centered on the compelling photojournalistic project "Reaching for Dusk" by Stefanos Paikos, a recipient of the 2025 W. Eugene Smith Fund Grant. Since 2021, Stefanos has documented the journeys of individuals traversing perilous migration routes towards Europe, shedding light on the violence, poverty, and human rights abuses they frequently encounter.
Following this, we will hear from Nyima Jadama from The Gambia, a passionate advocate for migrants' and women’s rights. As the founder of the non-profit organization Teranga Bantaba e.V., she focuses on empowering marginalized communities and will share her insights on integration in Germany as well as her advocacy work for migrants and refugees.
These perspectives will pave the way for a broader discussion on the current political climate regarding migration and the essential role media plays in this discourse.
The evening will conclude with an open Q&A session where attendees can engage with our speakers.
