Discover more about them at walkingaspractice.org/rm.

About the Work:

Segredo do Artesão intertwines video material from Rui Mourão’s trilogy, filmed across Sweden, Italy, Portugal, and Brazil, creating a dynamic field of images that coexist across time, places, and experiences. This project is part of Mourão's PhD trajectory, delving into the relationship between art and ritual by examining how knowledge arises through embodied experiences. Here, attention, perception, and meaning are shaped through participation rather than mere observation.

The project emerges from a long-term research process spanning Europe and the Amazon, challenging Western divisions between nature and culture. By integrating art, anthropology, philosophy, and indigenous knowledge systems, it explores how diverse ways of knowing coexist without reducing one to another.

The presentation is generously supported by Weld, Slakthusateljéerna, BKN/Björkö Konstnod, walkingaspractice.org, and various individual artists. Additionally, Rui Mourão has received grant support from the Direção-Geral das Artes of the Portuguese Republic for the tour, catalogue, and conference associated with Segredo do Artesão.
