The Adventures of Kindaichi Kosuke - Listening session

This Friday, we invite you to a special listening session at Atemporal, centered around one of our favorite records in the collection: The Adventures of Kindaichi Kosuke (1977) by The Mystery Kindaichi Band.

Conceived as an imaginary soundtrack to the detective novels of Seishi Yokomizo, the record brings to life the world of the iconic investigator Kindaichi Kosuke through sound. Arranged by renowned composer Kentaro Haneda, it blends jazz-funk, disco, and cinematic elements into a richly textured listening experience.

Recorded with some of Tokyo’s top studio musicians of the time, the album moves between groovy basslines, lush orchestration, and suspenseful passages — capturing the atmosphere of mystery,

, and intrigue that defines Yokomizo’s stories. Though not tied to a specific film, it feels deeply visual, as if scoring scenes that exist only in the listener’s imagination.

Over the years, the record has gained cult status among collectors and DJs for its unique concept and timeless sound, sitting somewhere between library music, film score, and experimental pop.

For this session, we will play the record in full on our bespoke sound system, allowing every detail to unfold in an intimate setting.
