The Library for Arts and Culture Workshop

Sobre el evento

Join us for a series of immersive writing workshops designed for students, emerging writers, and professionals! This initiative invites New Yorkers from all five boroughs to confront the contradictions of the Revolution—a pursuit of liberty amid the ongoing reality of legal enslavement.

Through engaging prompts and community discussions, participants will delve into themes of freedom, displacement, and identity rooted in Revolutionary-era New York.

🌟 Highlight: Experience the groundbreaking theatrical project, Battle in the Margins, in collaboration with OPRHP and Black Gotham Experience. This unique endeavor illuminates Black life in New York City during the American Revolution, showcasing the experiences, resistance, and contributions of the African Diaspora in shaping early American history.

🎭 Developed through original one-act, ten-minute plays, this project strives to bring forward stories often omitted from the nation's founding narrative.

🎉 Premiere Alert: The productions will debut on September 19th at FDR Four Freedoms State Park!

🚌 Transportation: Getting to the main event is simple! Head to the Atlantic Ave/Barclays Center subway station, hop on the B, D, N, or Q train towards Manhattan, then transfer to the M train at 34th St/Herald Square. After five stops, you’ll arrive at Roosevelt Island. Take a scenic walk or catch the “Red Bus” from Main St. to Southpoint Park, leading you directly to Four Freedoms State Park.
