THE ORCHESTRA Starring ELO and ELO Part II Former Members

Band History

THE ORCHESTRA, a successor band to Electric Light Orchestra, was formed by former members of both ELO and ELO Part II. Originating as ELO Part II, the group began with five ELO members and has grown into a rock supergroup, carrying forward the legacy and spirit of ELO for audiences worldwide.

Their story began in 1970 in Birmingham, England, where Electric Light Orchestra rose to fame with a unique blend of Beatlesque pop, classical arrangements, and inventive iconography. Mik Kaminski, known for his legendary blue violin, joined in 1973. The band's classic lineup solidified in 1974 with bassist and singer Kelly Groucutt and orchestrator Lou Clark, who added distinctive orchestral elements to their sound.

Together, Mik, Lou, and Kelly contributed to a remarkable catalog of hit records, selling over 50 million copies globally, including Eldorado, Face the Music, A New World Record, Out of the Blue, Discovery, and Xanadu. After ELO's original line-up dissolved in 1986, drummer Bev Bevan founded ELO Part II in 1988, featuring notable musicians like Pete Haycock, Eric Troyer, and other former ELO members. Following various lineup changes, the group began touring as THE ORCHESTRA in 2000, releasing the noteworthy album No Rewind.

Following losses and transformations within the group, they continue to honor their legacy, with Louis Clark Jr. connecting with the band's orchestral roots since 2011.

Multi-instrumentalist Cliff Hillis has also enriched THE ORCHESTRA's sound since 2017.
