Who Gets Left Out? Overcoming Racism in Neuroscience Research

Sobre el evento

🧠 Who gets included in neuroscience—and who gets left out?
Many common tools in psychophysiology and neuroscience—like EEG, EDA, and fNIRS—struggle to work accurately across different skin tones and hair types. While not intentionally exclusionary, these technologies often fail to accommodate darker skin and curlier or coarser hair, resulting in the systematic underrepresentation of Black individuals in neuroscience research.

Join Keanan Joyner, Assistant Professor of Psychology at University of California, Berkeley, for an insightful lecture exploring what he terms technical racism in neuroscience. This session will analyze how these barriers arise and what the scientific community can do to dismantle them.

The talk will shine a light on ongoing efforts to redesign methods in psychophysiology and clinical neuroscience, focusing on equitable representation, improved science, and inclusive mental health research. 🔬⚡
