We continue to celebrate the UK premiere of 'A Century in Sound' documentary, with a discussion between director Nick Dwyer and the Japanese electronic artist Izumi ‘Mimi’ Kobayashi.
Izumi “Mimi” Kobayashi is a Japanese composer, pianist, and producer known for her irrepressible, genre-blending approach to music. Emerging in the late 1970s, she became one of Japan’s leading jazz-funk keyboardists, fusing Latin rhythms, electronic experimentation, and pop sensibilities into a distinctive sound.
Early releases with her Flying Mimi Band and solo albums like 'Coconuts High' established her as an inventive force, while her fascination with new technology led her to pioneer the use of drum machines in anime soundtracks and compose widely recognised TV themes.
We're playing her album 'Choice Cuts 1978 - 1983' in full, plus there's a DJ set from Mari*from Gondwana Records
6pm - welcome drinks
