AG Capital Cape Grand Prix
LEGENDS COME TO LIFE AT KILLARNEYSixty-four years ago, Grand Prix racing came to Killarney for the second time. The date was 2 January 1962, and the world’s top drivers were competing on what was still a very new 3.267 kilometre circuit. For most motorsport enthusiasts, those days are the stuff of legend, a golden era of iconic names such as Lotus and Brabham. Few of us are old enough to remember them – but now that’s about to change! On the first weekend in February 2027, those legends will come to life as Killarney International Raceway hosts the AG Capital Cape Grand Prix Revival, featuring a full field of early 1960s Grand Prix racing cars, lovingly preserved and raced by the enthusiasts of the Historic Grand Prix Cars Association - who in most cases are younger than the cars they compete in.The Revival will also feature races for classic saloon cars and golden-era motorcycles, served up in an atmosphere that brings the Swinging Sixties to life with period music (think Elvis and the Beatles) and food (think bangers and mash, rather than sushi!).Spectators are encouraged to join in the fun and add to the vibe by dressing in period fashion, just like the iconic Goodwood Revival, as we recreate the days when anything was possible, when skirts were short and hair was long, and Colin Chapman was building World Championship-winning cars in the old stables behind the Railway Hotel in Hornsey, North London.Killarney is one of few race tracks in the world (and one of only two in South Africa) whose original layout remains unchanged. The 2027 Revival will be run on the same circuit as the Cape Grand Prix of 1962, albeit wider and a lot safer, making Killarney the perfect venue to relive the golden era of motorsport. So be more than just a spectator – dress up and be part of the Cape Grand Prix Revival!
