Join us for a thought-provoking lecture by Andrei Marinca that dives into the rich philosophical landscape of fourteenth-century Oxford. 🌟 This period is celebrated for its innovative ideas and methods that significantly altered Aristotelian natural philosophy. While much focus has been on the contributions from Franciscans and secular thinkers, this talk highlights a lesser-known yet critical perspective from the Oxford Blackfriars studium. 📚
Drawing from previously unexplored manuscript sources, including the Sentences commentaries by the English Dominicans Hugh of Lawton and Arnold of Strelley, we will unveil the unique contributions of the Blackfriars to the discussions on indivisibilism, the nature of continua, and the reinterpretation of Aristotle’s concepts of motion.
This event is part of the ambitious project funded by the European Research Council (ERC) under Horizon 2020, entitled ACADEMIA: Reconstructing Late Medieval Quests for Knowledge, which explores Quodlibetal debates as forerunners of modern academic dialogue. 🌍✨
