🌟 **Join us for auditions for the extraordinary, Tony Award-winning musical The Color Purple!**This captivating tale of survival, sisterhood, and self-discovery is set to touch hearts with its breathtaking music and unforgettable characters. Through love, faith, and resilience, this story celebrates the power of finding your voice in a world that seeks to silence it.

🤝We Are Building a Community:
At Dayton Playhouse, we believe in the importance of representation. While The Color Purple centers on the experiences of Black women and families in the American South, we warmly welcome all performers who are passionate about telling this powerful story with authenticity and respect.

🎤 What to Prepare for Auditions:

• Vocal: Prepare 16–32 bars of a song in the style of the show. Selections from gospel, soul, R&B, blues, or contemporary musical theatre are encouraged.
• Dance/Movement: Be ready to learn a brief movement combination. Wear comfortable attire and appropriate footwear.
• Acting: You may be asked to read from the script, which will be provided during auditions.

🌸 Character Breakdown (All roles open!):

• Celie (Ages 14–40s): The heart of the story; a resilient young woman finding her strength.
• Nettie (Ages 14–40s): Celie's loving sister; strong singer and beacon of hope.
• Mister / Albert (Ages 35–55): Emotionally complex farmer confronting his shortcomings.
• Shug Avery (Ages 25–45): Glamorous blues singer with a fierce spirit.
• Sofia (Ages 20–40): Bold and unapologetic; a powerful woman in the story.
• Harpo (Ages 18–30): Kind-hearted and funny; struggles between expectations and desires.
• Squeak / Mary Agnes (Ages 18–30): Sweet and determined; a journey of self-discovery.
• Pa (Ages 35–60): Abusive father figure.
• Ol' Mister (Ages 55–75): Demanding and judgmental father.
• Church Ladies (Ages 25+): Vocal powerhouses with comedic timing.
• Adult Ensemble (Ages 18+): Versatile performers embodying various townspeople and community members.
