Author Talk: Doctors By Nature - How Ants, Apes and Other Animals Heal Themselves with Dr. Jaap de R
Join us for an inspiring discussion as part of Pollinator Month with renowned author and biologist Dr. Jaap de Roode! Discover how Atlanta's urban forest serves as a natural pharmacy, providing essential resources not just for people, but also for pollinators and wildlife. Dr. de Roode's research on monarch butterflies and honey bees reveals the fascinating ways these animals utilize plants, chemicals, and microbes to ward off illness, highlighted in his book, Doctors by Nature: How Ants, Apes, and Other Animals Heal Themselves.
Beyond lab work, Dr. de Roode and his team are actively involved in community science, visiting schools, hosting festivals, and establishing pollinator gardens to foster healthier ecosystems in our city. He encourages us all to plant with intention to support the wildlife of Atlanta’s urban forest.
