Chen Chen Yu: 𝓓𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓶 𝓸𝓯 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓔𝓰𝓰𝓼 • A-i-R MeetFactory

Vejce je těžké přenášet. Vyžaduje to zvláštní druh pevné něhy. A přesto vejce přenášíme na vzdálenosti, které si sami zvolíme i ty, které nám jsou vnuceny, za podmínek, které jsou zároveň bezpečné i nebezpečné. Výstava taiwanského umělce a aktuálního rezidenta MeetFactory Chen Chen Yu čerpá inspiraci z konkrétní historické události: v roce 1945, kdy byly stovky tisíc německy mluvících rodin vyhnány z českých pohraničních oblastí, dostaly jen omezený čas na sbalení a přísná omezení ohledně toho, co si mohly vzít s sebou. Jak se v takových podmínkách přenášela vejce?V těchto pohraničních oblastech existovalo rozptýlené sklářské řemeslo, v němž mohla jedna skleněná korálka projít mnoha různými domácnostmi, než byla dokončena – forma znalostí, která žila v rukou a předávala dovednosti skrze těla přes kopce. Vyhnání tento řetězec přerušilo. Výstava Dream of the Eggs přistupuje k této amputaci z boku, skrze křehkou logiku vejce.Vejce sní o tom, že mu narostou končetiny, že už nebude třeba ho nosit, že se bude pohybovat samo. Je to tělo, které teprve přijde, s končetinami, které teprve dorazí. Vyhnaní skláři také snili o končetinách: o foukací trubici, peci, tělesném aparátu řemesla. Sen a fantomová končetina směřují do dvou různých časových směrů – jeden k tělu, které teprve přijde, druhý k tělu, které již odešlo. Vstup je zdarma. ______An egg is a difficult thing to carry. It demands a particular kind of sturdy tenderness. And yet we carry eggs across chosen and unchosen distances, under conditions that are both safe and unsafe. The exhibition by Taiwanese artist and current MeetFactory resident Chen Chen Yu draws inspiration from a specific history: in 1945, when hundreds of thousands of German-speaking families were expelled from the Czech borderlands, they were given limited time to pack and strict limits on what they could carry. How were eggs carried in such conditions?Those borderlands sustained a dispersed glass industry, in which a single bead might pass through many different households before being completed, a form of knowledge that lived in hands, passing skills through bodies across the hills. The expulsion severed this body of knowledge. Dream of the Eggs approaches this amputation sideways, through the fragile logic of the egg.The egg dreams of growing limbs, of no longer needing to be carried, of moving on its own. It is a body yet to come, with limbs yet to arrive. The expelled glassworkers dreamed of limbs too: the blowpipe, the furnace, the bodily apparatus of craft. Dream and phantom limb point in two different temporal directions - one toward a body still to come, the other toward a body already gone.
