Der schottische Komponist, Produzent und Multiinstrumentalist Liam Shortall, alias corto.alto, macht Musik zu seinen eigenen Bedingungen: Klänge, die nicht nur von seiner Zeit in der aufstrebenden und kreativen Musikszene Glasgows erzählen, sondern ebenso von einem vielseitigen Spektrum an Einflüssen. Sie schöpfen gleichermaßen aus seiner Leidenschaft für Clubkultur und elektronische Musik wie aus seiner Liebe zu klassischem Hip-Hop, Soul und Funk.

Damit hat er in den letzten Jahren eine bemerkenswerte Erfolgsgeschichte geschrieben: Sein Debütalbum Bad With Names stand auf der Shortlist des renommierten Mercury Prize (2024), gewann den Preis für „Bestes Album“ bei den Scottish Jazz Awards und wurde bei den Jazz FM Awards (2025) zur „Band des Jahres“ gewählt – eine Publikumsabstimmung, bei der Ezra Collective und Nubya Garcia die weiteren Nominierten waren. Darüber hinaus wurde er in der Kategorie Independent Breakthrough bei den AIM Awards 2025 nominiert.

Seit Kurzem beim legendären Label Ninja Tune unter Vertrag, hat er mit seiner Single DON’T LISTEN erneut sein Gespür für die nahtlose Verbindung verschiedenster Stile unter Beweis gestellt. Der Track erhielt enorme Unterstützung im Radio und war vier Wochen lang Teil der A-Playlist von BBC 6 Music.

In den vergangenen 18 Monaten spielte die Band über 120 Konzerte, darunter auf der West Holts Stage beim Glastonbury Festival, als Headliner auf der Hauptbühne von We Out Here, bei Latitude, dem North Sea Jazz Festival, dem Montreux Jazz Festival, Cross The Tracks sowie auf einer ausverkauften UK-Tour, die mit einem Auftritt vor 2.000 Menschen in seiner Heimatstadt im legendären Barrowland Ballroom ihren Höhepunkt fand.

Scottish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall, aka corto.alto, makes music on his own terms: sounds that reflect not only his time within Glasgow’s vibrant and creative music scene, but also a wide spectrum of influences. His work draws as much from his passion for club culture and electronic music in all its forms as from his love of classic hip-hop, soul and funk.

With this, corto.alto has enjoyed an incredible couple of years: his debut album Bad With Names was shortlisted for the iconic Mercury Prize (2024), won Best Album at the Scottish Jazz Awards, and was named Act of the Year at the Jazz FM Awards (2025) – a public vote in which Ezra Collective and Nubya Garcia were the other nominees. He was also nominated in the Independent Breakthrough category at the AIM Awards 2025.

Now signed to the legendary label Ninja Tune, he has showcased once again his natural ability to fuse diverse styles with his single DON’T LISTEN. The track received enormous radio support and remained on the BBC 6 Music A-Playlist for four weeks.

Over the past 18 months, the band has played more than 120 shows, including the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury, headlining the main stage at We Out Here, as well as performances at Latitude, the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival, Cross The Tracks, and a sold-out UK tour culminating in a show for 2,000 people in his hometown at the legendary Barrowland Ballroom.
