Are you interested in understanding the social values that shape the educational practices in Denmark? This enlightening event aims to shed light on the complex pedagogical goals of 'learning to be social,' which emphasize both the importance of community (fællesskab) and nurturing individual self-autonomy (at være sig selv).
We will discuss key tenets of Danish pedagogy, including the commitments to:

  • Make room for everybody
  • Fit oneself in
  • Participate and contribute to the whole

The session will conclude with a discussion about the implicit hierarchies and 'symbolic fences' that often go unrecognized yet significantly impact social interactions. There will also be a Q&A session for further engagement with our speaker.
🎤 Our Speaker:
Sally Anderson, an accomplished anthropologist, brings a wealth of experience in children’s social dynamics. Since moving to Denmark in 1976, she has immersed herself in the local culture, raising a family and completing her academic credentials (Magister, PhD). Sally has taught at the Copenhagen International School and conducted research across various Danish institutions, focusing on children’s everyday social practices such as birthday celebrations, communal meals, and sports activities.
