Dünyada
“I’m not from here.”
A mysterious man arrives, suitcase in hand, accompanied by a camera and a voice tinged with sadness. He shares tales of homeland, family, lost loves, and cultural peculiarities, weaving a rich tapestry of unfinished thoughts and philosophical musings. As his distorted speech resonates, a camera captures not just his essence but the emotions of the audience too. The backdrop is filled with images that challenge us—what does it mean to truly be seen?
This August, don’t miss the chance to witness the internationally acclaimed actor and director Mehmet Ali Nuroğlu as he presents his powerful solo performance, Dünyada, at Camden Fringe. Fresh from the vibrant underground theater scene in Istanbul, Nuroğlu reinterprets Will Eno’s renowned monologue, Title and Deed, delivering a poignant exploration of migration, identity, and the yearning to be acknowledged in our digital existence.
Dünyada, meaning “in the world”, breaks conventional boundaries of solo theater with its innovative use of cinematic techniques, visual storytelling, and soundscapes. Nuroğlu’s dual role as actor and live cinematographer blurs the lines between mundane tasks and the emotional chaos of remembrance—we all relate. As he juggles lighting and audio in real-time, he creates a compelling contrast between his physical presence and digital reflection.
The audience transforms from passive spectators to essential participants, as the camera captures their silent reactions, folding them into the narrative.
An experience that is intimate, humorous, unsettling, and profoundly human. Dünyada is a celebration of existence, of being present here and now. On stage.
