Compay Segundo selbst wünschte sich, dass seine „vertonte Poesie“ – wie er seine Kompositionen nannte – in seinem Sinne weiterlebt. Er beauftragte die Gruppe persönlich und ernannte Ecos de Siboney zu seinen offiziellen Nachfolgern.
