Equity and Social Justice Panel

Equity and Social Justice Panel

À propos de l'événement

🌍 No One Way to Do Good
Many law students are passionate about social justice but may feel that a commercial or corporate legal career means abandoning those values. Our upcoming Social Justice Panel challenges that notion!
Hosted by the Melbourne University Law Students’ Society’s Equity and Social Justice Portfolio, this event will explore the various ways lawyers can contribute to positive social change across different practice areas and career paths.
Speakers:

  • Andrew Banks: Senior Lawyer in Gilbert + Tobin’s Pro Bono team, focusing on human rights, access to justice, and issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, refugees, and those experiencing financial hardship.
  • Joely Wilkinson-Hayes: Senior Associate at DLA Piper, specializing in competition, consumer, and regulatory law. She also serves as a Pro Bono Coordinator and supervises Fitzroy Legal Service’s Night Service clinic.
  • Eliza Dean: Lawyer in Gadens’ Sustainability and Social Impact team, with a background as a critical care nurse. Eliza is dedicated to advocacy and improving outcomes for women across various intersecting experiences.
Together, our speakers will demonstrate that there is no single pathway to making a meaningful contribution, and that a commitment to social justice can take many forms throughout a legal career.
The event will follow a panel format, with opportunities for audience questions and informal conversations with the speakers afterwards.
