🗓️ Join us for an immersive performance, "Becoming Tree", hosted by the talented Freddy Houndekindo, within the stunning exhibition "When We See Us: A Century of Black Figuration in Painting" at Liljevalchs.
🚶♂️ This unique experience is rooted in dance and movement, transforming the performer’s body into a vessel of rhythm, voice, and breath. It beautifully weaves labor and recovery into cycles of repetition and renewal.
🌍 Blending languages such as French, English, Fongbe, and sound, this performance celebrates the richness of diasporic expression, positioning Black creative production within a holistic, pan-African and global dialogue.
🌳 Like a sacred tree, it invites visitors to gather, listen, and envision new narratives surrounding Black life, labor, and becoming.
🎨 Freddy Houndekindo is an interdisciplinary artist who navigates between dance, performance text, and installation. His work thoughtfully explores identity, blackness, and masculinity, delving into topics of male culture, violence, and intimacy through his studies and practices in various combat sports.
🎓 Currently finalizing a Master’s in Fine Art at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, he is also developing his solo project “Men(d)ing: A speculative archive on contemporary masculinity.” Houndekindo previously danced with Cullberg (2018-2024).
🤝 This event is brought to you in collaboration with Southnord and Liljevalchs, with support from Riksteatern.
