À propos de l'événement

Biographical film about one of the most famous personalities of Czech cultural history was made by director František Vláčil in 1979. Instead of the usual chronological sequence of events, he offered the audience a series of images from the composer’s life.

World-famous composer Antonín Dvořák gets a bad premonition during a rehearsal at London's Royal Albert Hall. The four notes – f, ges, e, f – that haunt his mind prompt him to return immediately to his homeland. On the train journey, the brilliant musician delves into his memories – he recalls his fascination with the actress Josefina Čermáková, who later married Count Kounic. Dvořák married her younger sister Anna. The composer's professional career almost ended when Dvořák indiscriminately criticised a composition by Josefina's influential brother-in-law Kent. Thanks to the intercession of the composer Brahms, however, he did have a breakthrough with his music.
