La Decima Musa, or The Tenth Muse: Music from the Golden Age of Venetian Opera 1650-1660

Join us for an enchanting evening of La Decima Musa, featuring music from the Golden Age of Venetian Opera (1650-1660)! 🎭

Musica Antica Rotherhithe proudly presents works by renowned composers Francesco Cavalli, Barbara Strozzi, Francesco Lucio, P.A. Ziani, and Giovanni Legrenzi—many pieces that have remained unheard for over 370 years.

This exceptional concert will highlight cantatas and excerpts from operas originally written for the public theatres of Venice in the mid-17th century, with some works unperformed for more than 350 years. With the aid of surviving payment records from Venetian theatres, Mezzo Camilla Seale and countertenor Tristram Cooke will perform alongside an ensemble meticulously crafted to emulate a historical Venetian theatre band. 🎻
