Join us for the Master Composter Certification, a comprehensive program designed to deepen your understanding of organic waste management in New York City. 🌍

This engaging course includes:

  • 7 required workshops
  • 9 hours of service learning
  • 2 field trips to active compost-processing sites (including Snug Harbor!)
  • A capstone project culminating in a 5-minute presentation during the final workshop.

Through this journey, you'll explore:

  • Diverse organic waste diversion programs
  • Fundamental compost science and urban compost system design
  • Effective outreach techniques to enhance community engagement.

Participants will receive continual support to fulfill course requirements tailored to their interests and community needs. While you may complete the workshops in any order, we recommend the following sequence for optimal learning:

  1. Compost in Context
  2. Introduction to Composting
  3. Soil Health and Soil Science
  4. Caring for Soils with Compost, Mulch, and Cover Crops
  5. Composting Systems, Tools, and Scales
  6. Designing and Managing Community Composting Spaces
  7. Compost Advocacy and Community-Building
