Join us for a captivating evening of live performance art with Darryl Hell presenting Logic is an Enemy & Truth is a Menace! 🌟 This immersive performance is part of the exhibition Noise and Flesh: Crisis of the Image at the New American Art Gallery located in the Westbeth Art Center.
🗓️ Date: May 27, 2026
📍 Location: New American Art Gallery at 55 Bethune St, Loft G223, New York, NY.
Darryl Hell, an experimental musician and mixed-media artist, will explore societal narratives through an innovative sculptural instrument named M.O.N.A.. The performance aims to confront viewers with the stark contrast between cultural fiction and perceived truth. 💡
With a rich history spanning nearly three decades, Hell’s multidisciplinary approach renders these pressing societal questions visceral and auditory. His work challenges the longstanding narratives of peace and equality in the U.S., creating an unavoidable dialogue for all attendees.
Darryl Hell has been at the forefront of art and music for over 55 years. Starting his journey in Belmar, New Jersey, he was a pivotal member of the punk scene as the bassist for Public Disturbance and later founded the groundbreaking industrial project Abstinence. Notably, he is the only first-generation hip hop turntablist to transition to industrial turntablism. 🎶
As an educator at the Bronx Academy of Letters, he emphasizes cultural history and media literacy, integrating his artistic vision with community development. Hell also celebrates community with a park he founded in Bed-Stuy, now in its 12th year! 🌿
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to witness a powerful convergence of art, truth, and sound!
