Opening: john gerrard and Anna Barlik, We Had Been Citizens of No Country
Join us for the opening of We Had Been Citizens of No Country at Nguyen Wahed! 🎉 As America celebrates its 250th birthday, this exhibition showcases the thought-provoking works of john gerrard and Anna Barlik, who explore the symbolism of national flags.
A flag represents a complex political narrative, shaping perceptions of identity and belonging. In this exhibition, gerrard deconstructs the national flag into raw elements of code and smoke, while Barlik transforms it into steel, tulle, and cloth. Together, they challenge our understanding of nations, probing whether our sense of belonging is rooted in borders and history, or in shared values and experiences.
