Patriotic Karaoke - a participatory workshop

Join us for a unique two-hour workshop designed to explore and process the impact of patriotism and nationalism in our cultural upbringing. 🎉✨

As artists from diverse backgrounds, including Israel, Syria under Assad's regime, and the German Democratic Republic, we have been shaped by the music of our past—songs filled with patriotic and nationalistic themes. While we have developed critical perspectives on these ideologies, the rhythms remain a part of us.

🤔 Should we refrain from singing these songs, or can we reimagine them in a way that allows us to engage with their meanings while enjoying the familiar tunes? This event is an experiment, inviting participants to perform patriotic songs within a different context, exploring their cultural and political functions.

Everyone is welcome! Come as a viewer, audience member, or performer. If you wish to perform, kindly register here for playback preparation.

We encourage you to bring your creativity—feel free to create new lyrics for your favorite patriotic song! 🎶📝

Come with an open mind, ready to experience a spectrum of emotions including joy, cringe, discomfort, and more. After each song, we'll facilitate sharing and reflection, helping us understand the deeper impact these tunes have on us and our communities.
