Philosophy at the Museum: American Art before 20th Century
Join us for our inaugural tour exploring the captivating world of American art prior to the 20th century! 🎨 While 20th-century American art often takes the spotlight, earlier works are equally intriguing.
Have you ever marveled at the vast landscapes west of the Mississippi? From the majestic Rocky Mountains to endless cornfields, the open American frontier tells a story of struggle, displacement, and the quest for a new home, reminiscent of a modern Aeneid. 🌄
This rich history is filled with contradictions and controversies, yet the land—and the art it inspired—remains breathtaking.
The program features three 30-minute conversations, with participants grouped into teams of 3–4 for each session. Through structured prompts and brief introductions, attendees will engage with the artworks through philosophical reflection and personal interpretation. 🤔
