South Bay Systems: A Simple Guide to Sea of Nodes

South Bay Systems: A Simple Guide to Sea of Nodes

À propos de l'événement

Join us for another exciting edition of South Bay Systems! 🎉 This time, we're thrilled to present our first compilers talk featuring a guided exploration of Simple, a teaching language designed to highlight the Sea of Nodes compiler IR, utilized by HotSpot's C2 compiler and Sun/Oracle's Graal compiler.

Event Highlights:

  • Food & Socializing: Doors open at 6:00 PM, so come grab a bite and network! 🍕🤝
  • Main Talk: From 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, immerse yourself in the intricacies of the Sea of Nodes framework.
  • Community Socializing: From 7:30 PM onward, connect with fellow attendees! 🌐

Complimentary food and beverages will be provided, courtesy of our gracious hosts, LinkedIn. 🎊

About the Talk:

A Simple Guide to Sea of Nodes aims to introduce basic blocks—straight-line sequences of instructions devoid of control flow, which are essential for constructing an intermediate representation in compilers. This innovative approach proposes representing each instruction as its own node in a graph, solely relying on dataflow to establish a partial ordering.

Throughout the talk, we'll incrementally develop the Simple language from a basic version, showcasing how each feature integrates into the graph-based representation and the optimizations that the Sea of Nodes enables.

Speaker Bio:

Cliff Click, our distinguished speaker, wrote his first compiler at age 15 (Pascal to TRS Z-80!). Renowned for creating the HotSpot Server Compiler, he's currently a distinguished engineer at HashGraph. Cliff has a rich background, having served as CTO and Co-Founder of 0xdata, and significantly contributed at Azul Systems and Sun Microsystems. 🔍
