I met again with Vladimir Körner over this prose, who was actually adapting foreign material here for the first time. There is a certain similarity between Vančura and Čapek. Both of them had enough of a - I would almost say banal – plot that would not interfere with the development of thought-rich reflections. In Čapek’s case it was a story copied from the rural calendars so widely read in the countryside at the beginning of this century. ‘Stín kapradin’ is about two young delinquents whose illusions lead them to a tragic end.
