🎤 About the Talk:
Delve into the fascinating world of underground canals pioneered by the Third Duke of Bridgewater, also known as the Canal Duke. From 1759, his agent John Gilbert initiated a remarkable system of underground canals, tapping into a substantial coalfield. This series of canals, spanning over 52 miles across four levels, became a pivotal engineering feat, drawing coal from 35+ collieries until 1887.

Alan Davies, who was instrumental in the 1999 feasibility study and creator of the only color documentary on these canals, will provide insights into their historical significance and recent restorations, including the revitalization of Worsley Delph in 2018-19.
