The Founding Debate Reading Group #1 - Inherited Framework
À propos de l'événement
Join us as we delve into the foundational debates that shaped the United States! 🇺🇸 In 2026, America celebrates its 250th anniversary, and we're marking this milestone by exploring the discussions among the founders, particularly between the Federalists and Anti-Federalists. Over eight weeks, we'll analyze primary sources and some scholarly perspectives to better understand their thoughts and fears regarding the government they were establishing.
What to Expect:
- Reading Load: 30–50 pages per week 📚
- Format: Small group discussions that thrive on participation — your presence at most sessions is encouraged!
- Preparation: Bring an annotated copy of the readings each week.
- Kick-off: Our first meeting will include an overview of the American Founding Era timeline, providing essential context for our discussions.
Readings for This Week:
- Locke, Second Treatise of Government (Ch. 2, 9, 19)
- Montesquieu, Spirit of the Laws (Book XI, Ch. 1–6)
Both works are in the public domain, so feel free to find them online or purchase physical copies! A handy packet has been prepared for easy download here.
