The Philosophical Foundations of Mindfulness

À propos de l'événement

Mindfulness has seamlessly woven itself into the fabric of modern secular life, transcending its Buddhist roots to find a place in neuroscience labs, corporate boardrooms, and smartphone applications. But what is mindfulness, really? How do we interpret its fundamental assertions?

Join Professor of Philosophy Dan Zahavi and post-doctoral fellow Odysseus Stone as they delve into the essential aspects of contemporary mindfulness:

  • 🌟 Emphasizing the importance of the present moment,
  • 🌱 Fostering non-judgmental awareness,
  • 🧩 Understanding our thoughts as mental events rather than straightforward reflections of reality.

To explore and critically evaluate these notions, we will draw upon phenomenology – a philosophical tradition often seen as harmoniously aligned with mindfulness. However, we propose that phenomenology presents a significantly different perspective.

This event marks the second installment in the series "Psychedelics, Mindfulness, and Our Relations: Can the Self Change?" Join us as researchers from the Center for Subjectivity Research investigate whether psychedelics, mindfulness, and human connection can redefine the self and alter our perception of ourselves, others, and the world around us.
