In 1976, the nation marked two centuries of independence with an enormous wave of celebration: massive parades, fireworks, historical reenactments, a cross-country Freedom Train, and tall ships crowding New York Harbor like something out of a maritime film. It was loud, visible, and inescapable.

But beneath the spectacle, the context was anything but simple. Post-Vietnam. Post-Watergate. Political fractures and economic anxiety ran deep — yet the country channeled its energy into heavily publicized national events and iconic patriotic campaigns. Sound familiar?

He is a licensed NYC sightseeing guide, has presented with the New York Adventure Club and the New Jersey Public Scholars Program, and is co-host of the Morbid Museum Podcast.
