TMJ 2026: Mika Kares & Kirill Kozlovski: Tummassa virrassa

Join us in August 2026 for a remarkable concert featuring the internationally acclaimed bass Mika Kares alongside his long-time collaborator, Dr. Kirill Kozlovski. This special performance called Tummassa Virrassa will be held in the atmospheric setting of Betel Church and will showcase key works in Finnish vocal music along with personal interpretations that have evolved over the years.

The concert program revolves around compositions by Tauno Pylkkänen, Oskar Merikanto, and Toivo Kuula. Kares and Kozlovski have crafted a program that honors the Finnish language, poetry, and song tradition, including song cycles, solo songs, and piano pieces. A particular highlight will be arrangements of South Ostrobothnian folk songs by Toivo Kuula—pieces that have been part of Kares’s journey since his student days.

“It is a great honor to perform a full concert in Turku. Last year, I experienced the fantastic atmosphere at the Turku Music Festival through a communal singing event, but now I am thrilled to present a complete concert of Finnish vocal music.”

This concert not only marks Kares's return to his roots but is also a deeply personal journey for him, as he performs pieces that he has cherished since his childhood at the Rauma Music Institute.
