Throughout the duration of the special exhibition, "Stage," 2026 will host both programmed performances and spontaneous activations in front of the Modern’s auditorium. With its powder-coated steel surface adorned with Johnson’s signature marks, this platform is an artwork in itself.

The interplay between artist and audience is a key theme in Johnson’s work, making Stage a testament to his commitment to creating spaces for communal expression. Inspired by memories of dancing atop Carl Andre’s Post-Minimalist floor works in Chicago, this stage embodies a collective experience of creativity and artistic endeavor.
