AI That Works: build an Apify Actor that reads your Claude Code logs

🌟 AI That Works is a monthly meetup for anyone involved with AI in Austin, including developers, founders, operators, go-to-market teams, and the AI-curious. Each session features:

• Live demos from practitioners working on real use cases.
• Hands-on building activities.
• Honest discussions about what truly delivers results.

This month, we will create a self-improving research loop that transforms your Claude Code session logs into a comprehensive map of your AI tooling. By pointing an Apify Actor at your session files, it will extract a structured usage taxonomy from every run, detailing the tools you use, the MCP servers you connect to, the packages you import, and the domains you interact with. This will help you identify gaps in your tooling rather than just listing what you already own.

🔍 What to Expect:

• Understanding Gaps: We’ll discuss why guessing your gaps is ineffective and how the session log at ~/.claude/projects/**/*.jsonl is the only reliable record.
• Building the Tool:
  • Capture Layer: Create an Actor that parses Claude Code JSONL session files into a structured usage taxonomy.
  • Gap Layer: Cross-reference signals against your installed skills and the plugin marketplace, scoring candidates based on value.
  • Automation Layer: Set up a webhook to fetch results immediately after a run.
  • Outputs: Route findings into vault notes, skill scaffolds, and plugin stubs for reusability.

💻 What to Bring:

• A laptop (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
• An Apify account (free tier or higher)
• Claude Code installed with some session history
• Node.js installed
• Your preferred code editor (Cursor, VS Code, etc.)
• Basic comfort with the terminal and JavaScript/TypeScript
