Beyond the Ban: Celebrating Women's Racing in NSW Sport Cycling 1958-1980

Info sull'evento

Join us for a remarkable gathering that honors the brave women who challenged the long-standing racing ban in New South Wales cycling. 🏅 Hosted by the Inner West Council as part of the 2026 NSW Heritage Festival, this event draws from in-depth research featured in the upcoming book, Sydney's Cycling Communities. 📚

Discover the inspiring stories of a group of pioneering women who defied a racing prohibition that persisted for 84 years, from 1896 to 1980. By the 1950s, local clubs such as the Lidcombe-Auburn Cycle Club, St George Cycle Club, and the Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club took a stand against this unjust practice.

Meet some of these groundbreaking athletes, now in their 80s, and enjoy a celebration of resilience and empowerment in women's sports. This event is jointly hosted with support from the LACC, St George CC, and the DHBC.
